W1: "If Time Travel Was Real: My First Adventure"
My family and I went to my grandfather’s hometown during a school holiday. After lunch, my grandfather asked me to find an old photo album from the storage room. While looking for the album, I noticed that the drawer of the desk was shaking. I guessed it was a tiny animal, so I opened the drawer to check.
Inside, I saw a little box with a button. There was a note next
to the box: Press to travel through time. I was curious, so I pressed the button.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed from the drawer. I slowly opened my eyes and
found myself standing in a forest.
I looked around and saw several plants, some of them looked different from the ones I knew. I also heard uncommon sounds, like animal noises.

Hence, I thought the button was fake and nothing had happened.
As I walked farther, I reached a small open space. In front of me was a nest with five huge eggs. I was curious and stepped closer to look. Suddenly, I heard something behind me. I turned around and saw something huge with two powerful legs and little arms on its chest. I looked up and realized, it was a dinosaur, Velociraptor!

A Velociraptor
I was stunned, I had only seen dinosaurs in books, cartoons and movies, but now there was a real one standing in front of me. Then, I quickly ran toward a small cave nearby. The dinosaur tried to come in, but its large body not fit inside. I stayed in the cave breathing heavily.
At this moment, I realised that I had travelled through
time. I had gone back to the dinosaur era, which occurred about 252 million
years ago (Geiger, 2021). I was excited to look at real dinosaurs, but I was also
afraid because I didn’t know how to survive. I considered where I could get
food and water, and whether the dinosaurs would attack me.
After a while, I felt hungry. I decided to leave the cave
and find food. While walking, I saw a Triceratops, my favourite dinosaur. It
was a herbivore that only ate plants such as ferns and shrubs (Castro, 2024). I
walked closer and reached out to touch it. It didn’t run away, that surprised
me. Instead, it took a few steps towards me and lowered its head.
Then, I realised its front leg was bleeding. I tore a piece of my shirt and carefully wrapped it around the wound to reduce the bleeding. The Triceratops looked at me and started walking. It seemed like wanted me to follow, so I did.
It led me to a place where there were many other Triceratops
and several trees bearing fruit. The dinosaurs didn’t attack me. Instead, they
picked fruits from the trees and presented them to me. I chose an apple and
held it in my hand, feeling surprised and grateful.
Suddenly, a roar broke the peaceful moment. The dinosaurs were
scared and rushed oppositely. I stood there, considering what to do. A large
body was running toward me, it looked like a Tyrannosaurus rex!
I felt afraid as I knew the Tyrannosaurus rex was a ferocious and effective predator(Cotroneo, 2021). It slowly came towards me and opened its mouth wide, ready to eat me. At this moment, I just want to find a way back home. I closed my eyes, believing this was the end.
After a few seconds, nothing occurred. I gently opened my
eyes and found myself back in my grandfather’s storage room. I heard my
grandfather calling my name from the living room, and I responded to him
quickly. When I looked down, it was an apple in my hand…….
My adventure taught me many lessons. First, I learned that cannot
decide to do something with curiosity. I pressed the button with my curiosity
and it led to an amazing but scary experience. Second, I learned to stay calm and
respond quickly. When I faced danger, I ran to a safe place quickly to prevent myself
from injury. Third, I knew that history is amazing and full of mysteries.
Seeing dinosaurs in real life made me realise how little we know about the
past. The world changes throughout time, and many things disappear. It
increased my appreciation for history.
